Stress-Free Wedding Hair Style Choices With These Tips

by Anne Michaels

Choosing your wedding hairstyle can be a difficult task. If you’re having trouble finding the right one for you, you’re not alone - lots of women have this problem.

In addition to looks, there are other concerns when it comes to choosing a style for your wedding. You’ll have to find a style that will be comfortable to wear all day, is suitable for the conditions you’ll be getting married in, and which fits your budget. So, here are a few tips on choosing the perfect style:

Remember to start early! Find hairstyle photos you like well in advance of the wedding, and begin collecting them. This will give you a starting point that tells you what sort of hairstyle you prefer.

Of course, when you pick out these pictures, you’ll want to be realistic. Don’t count on a drastic change in color or length right before the wedding. Instead, do these early, or look at styles that are meant for about the same color, cut, and type of hair you have already.

Getting the perfect style can be easier if you know your face shape. That way, you’ll be able to rule out styles that don’t suit you. Not sure what shape your face is? Take a look in the mirror and analyze things.

If you’re still having trouble, measure the width of your cheekbones, jaw line and forehead, and the length of your face. People having trouble taking measurements may wish to trace the outline of their faces onto a mirror, then measure the drawing.

If your forehead and jaw are the same width, and narrower than your cheekbones, you have the ideal egg shape. This face works with almost any wedding hair style, but avoid styles that rest on your face, because they can distort the shape.

Round faces, ones with little difference between length and cheekbone measurements, are a little tougher. The right style will make your face look longer. Long styles below chin length or short styles cut above the chin will help, but short curly styles or tightly pulled back ones should be avoided.

Heart shaped faces are wide at the forehead, but narrow at the jaw. To counteract a very tapered jaw, consider a chin length bob with curls to balance it. Slicked back styles and styles with fullness at the forehead may not work well for you.

Square faces have similar length and width measurements. They should soften their faces using a layered style, or wear longer hair past their shoulders. A geometric cut is a bad idea, but side swept fringes can be very flattering.

Of course, face shape isn’t the only thing to think about. Remember to wear a comfortable style that’s right for the environment you’ll be married in. People who aren’t comfortable with tightly pulled back hair or loose curls shouldn’t let a stylist talk them into a bad style for them, no matter how pretty it is.

Remember - the most important part of choosing the right wedding hair style is for it to be something you’re comfortable with. Even the most beautiful style won’t look its best if it makes you feel awkward. Spend some time wearing your style before the wedding if you can, especially if it’s a big change - that way you can make sure that you get the perfect wedding hair style for your big day.
